Ranting and raving…
you've heard the phrase for someone ranting- shouting and talking in a noisy, loud, frenzied manner and raving - shouting and talking in an excited and enthusiastic manner.
But when these two words are coupled, a very unusual thing occurs - the rant, which has a negative connotation, and the rave which has a positive one - both mean the same thing! What a combination!
In the climate we are living in, we can "live" with these two words very easily!
I am suggesting that when you are ranting and raving, use the rant to make a point (the word is actually enjoying a better reputation these days), and the rave to express excitement about something!
